Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church was officially chartered as a Presbyterian Church in the Synod of the Pacific on June 8, 1986 and Rev. Ernie Cubbon was installed as pastor.  In June 1985, 12.5 acres of property were purchased on the corner of Barton and Rocklin Roads in Loomis as the future site of the church.  A ground breaking service for the original worship center on the property in Loomis was held on June 5, 1988 and the first Sunday morning service was held in the new building on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1989

The church has seen many changes in the past 20 years.  After serving for ten years, Pastor Ernie Cubbon retired on June 5, 1994.  In July 1995, Pastor David Ratcliff was called to be our pastor. In November, 1999 we began the process of remodeling the church house to accommodate the “Baby Step Early Head Start Infant and Toddler Center.”  SOS teamed up with Placer Community Action Council to accomplish this remodel.

As our attendance continued to grow, we began to feel crowded in our worship center and in September 2002 the official ground breaking ceremony for the new Worship Center was held.  Our first Sunday morning worship service in the Worship Center was held on October 16, 2003.  The original worship center was remodeled and is now the Fellowship Center.

Two important ministries at SOS include the Stephen Ministry program and our involvement with The Gathering Inn.  The Gathering Inn is a program that started in 2004 in the South Placer County area to house the homeless.  A more recent project is the development of The Memorial Prayer Garden.
