The Pentecost Offering
The Pentecost Offering unites us in a church-wide effort to support young people in Christ, inspiring them to share their faith, ideas, and unique gifts with the church and the world. Globally, through PC(USA) we support:

1) "Educate a Child, Transform the World" This is a national initiative which was affirmed at the 221st General Assembly (2014) with a goal of motivating and inspiring Presbyterians to better the lives of one million children around the world by 2020. It is a ministry, carried out by churches here in the U.S. as well as by our co-workers in the mission field such as the Boyds in Africa. It shapes a child's academic achievement, setting them on a path toward a stable future;

2) Young Adult Volunteer Program (YAV)  This is a ministry that trains and equips volunteers, ages 19 - 30, to engage in mission for a year of service at more than 20 sites in the U.S. and around the world; it is a time to grow in their faith, develop leadership skills and then share these gifts with their church and their communities;

3) Every three years more than 5,000 youth gather for the Presbyterian Youth Triennium to worship, learn, and serve together. We believe that the Holy Spirit moves among us when we gather and draws us into meaningful relationships and powerful understandings of what God is doing in the world. Seven of Shepherd's young people attended Triennium in 2019.

Finally, 40% of the offering taken will be retained locally to address the needs of at-risk children in our community.
