Shepherd of the Sierra has two one-hour Sunday worship services (8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.). (We have one service at 10 a.m. Memorial weekend through Labor Day weekend.) Each service is identical in style and content. Our worship assumes the leadership of both lay people and clergy, and seeks to be both traditional and contemporary. This intention is reflected in the variety of choruses, songs, hymns and instrumental music that are led by our Praise Team. The Lord's Supper (Eucharist) is celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month and weekly during the Advent season through Pentecost Sunday.
Our children are welcome in worship! Through special children's bulletins, the Time for Young Disciples, and the special place for children in our worship center, children can experience worship and learn what it means to be part of the faith community. From September through May Pastor Dave preaches on a variety of scriptural texts which coordinate with the lessons our children and youth explore.
Nursery care is provided for infants and children up to age three throughout the entire worship service and during the Formation and Education time in Building C - Youth & Children's Center.
At 9:45 a.m. each Sunday during the school year, the congregation is invited to participate in the Formation & Education time. We have separate classes for children, Middle School - High School, and adults. For each series of classes a variety of options are available to our adults. We have had book studies, Bible studies, music studies, meditation experiences, interactive video series, and current events exploration.
