Coming Together – We gather in the Conference Room once a month to address any business, pray, and then spend time in fellowship as we knit or crochet. We meet from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month.
We are thrilled to have established a Prayer Shawl Ministry at Shepherd of the Sierra. Our prayer now is that some of you may wish to join us in any capacity God leads you to. It is a multi-faceted ministry to extend God’s love and compassion to others through:
Caring – The heart of a loved one is nudged by God to request a Prayer Shawl for someone suffering an extremely difficult physical, emotional, or spiritual concern.
Creating – A shawl is knitted or crocheted, with love and prayer in every stitch for that individual. Directions are available for those who would like to work on a shawl.
Praying – Our Prayer Partners also pray for those a shawl has been requested. Each person will continue to be kept in prayer after receiving their shawl.
Blessing – As a Prayer Shawl is completed it will be presented in Sunday Worship to be blessed by Pastor Dave on behalf of S.O.S.
Supporting – Those able to contribute financially beyond their regular giving are an important part of this ministry too. Financial assistance to purchase yarn and necessary supplies will be greatly appreciated. A knitted shawl uses 3 skeins of Lion Brand Homespun yarn ($20), or 2 balls of James Brett Chunky Marble yarn ($24). The shawls are given in a special green bag, wrapped in tissue and with a card of encouragement enclosed.
Please prayerfully consider participating in this ministry “to wrap a hurting person in God’s comforting care.”
